I am a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist working with individuals and couples on a wide range of issues. I help clients develop inner strength, centeredness, and personal empowerment as they face relationship issues, professional issues, depression, anxiety, PTSD, trauma, minority issues (related to race/ethnicity/gender/sexual orientation), grief & loss, separation and divorce, serious illness, and other life transitions.
While we know that emotions have no timeline, I am very focused on helping you in identifying goals and working consistently towards them. At the same time, I am empathic and creative, and am invested in attuning myself to your needs. My perspective is multicultural and LGBTQ+ affirming.
Along with talk therapy, I offer and extensively use other modalities, especially yoga, expressive arts, and Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (placed by the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Defense in the "A" category as “strongly recommended” for the treatment of trauma; see http://www.emdrhap.org/content/what-is-emdr/). In addition to being a therapist in private practice, I have been a counselor in other settings ranging from a college health center to a hospice, have led and continue to lead trainings on a variety of topics in different contexts, have been a professional-level yoga instructor for 16 years, and was a professor for 14 years. Although born on the East Coast, I consider myself a Southern Californian, and I have lived in San Diego since 2001.
